We’ll be censoring all of Tumblr in order to protest ACTA. Any blog that does not reblog this will be shut down and have all of its content removed.
Considering all the shit that’s going on I’m reblogging due to paranoia..

A bigot tried to spew his hate on the NoH8 Facebook page today. So I decided to let him know how right he was. I screen capped his comment, my response, and the original quote that started it all.
Amanda - you rock.
YOU rock. <3

Today, Marvel Comics came under fire by fans when the publisher’s support of the Stop Online Piracy Act (or SOPA) came to light. While the list of companies that support SOPA has been publicly available since December 22, Marvel’s support of the bill was noticed only recently and the fan reaction was less than positive. While the criticism from fans on Twitter has been mostly negative, the reactions are nothing out of the ordinary for such a situation, ranging from shock and disappointment to anger and outrage with many users tweeting they will cease to purchase Marvel books effective immediately. Others have solicited comment from some of the bigger names in the comic and entertainment world, such as writers Kieron Gillen and Peter David, actor Wil Wheaton and Marvel Social Media Coordinator Janet O’Shea, who all have yet to respond.
The list also shows Time Warner, DC Comics’ parent company, in support of the bill, along with other publishers Hachette, Harper Collins, Macmillan, Penguin and Random House.
A Google search also revealed that there was a user-generated topic about Marvel’s support of the bill on its Marvel.com forums, but the thread has since been deleted.
CBR News reached out to Marvel about the situation, but offered no comment when asked.
SOPA, a bill that would allow the U.S. Department of Justice and copyright holders to seek court orders against websites accused of copyright infringement, was introduced to the House of Representatives in October 2011 and is currently under debate by the House Judiciary Committee. Opponents of the bill believe, if passed, it will infringe on First Amendment rights, limit the potential of free speech and in its current form be ineffective against piracy of copyrighted media. Still others believe it will cripple user-content generation websites such as Twitter, YouTube, Flickr and Vimeo. Hearings were held on November 16 and December 15 and debates will continue after Congress returns from its winter recess.
What amuses me is that most comic books fans came to know many titles thanks to the very same websites SOPA is against.

So I seemed to have accumulated a lot of invite codes for Dreamwidth.org. Hit me up if you want one and don’t already have an account there, yeah?
*doesn’t want to feel guilty for hording all these invite codes*
I know. But, in my defense, I tend to be naive about things like this.
But still, self, when you read this review of Smallville, something should’ve dinged in your brain: http://christwire.org/2011/05/smallville-series-finale-review-episode-10-21-and-10-22-watch-online-now/
Sorry if someone’s requested to follow me on Twitter and I haven’t accepted or declined your request. Just, there’s a lot of people requesting to follow me on there and I feel kinda weird accepting them if I don’t know them from other places on the web. Not that it should matter because I don’t share my personal info anywhere on the Internet but, again, I feel weird having people read my personal tweets whom I don’t really know.
I guess this is just a general PSA that if you find me somewhere else on the web and you want to “follow” or “friend” me, please tell me if you know me from somewhere else (like LiveJournal, Dreamwidth, or here), that way I know where you’re coming from when you add me. Because I feel like there are a lot of requests coming my way from products/authors I don’t really want to follow. (Like you talk about shoes or whatever once in a blue moon on there and suddenly there are like five people with the name “shoes” in their username trying to follow you. I’m sorry but if I want to follow a shoes-related Twitter account, I can find them myself.)
And I also talk a lot about fandom/writing on there, and I definitely do not want any people associated with my fandoms in any official capacity to be privy to my thoughts (or really any random person out there on the Internet). It’s a weird thing with me - I do not like breaking down the fourth wall.
Everyone is wondering why LJ keeps getting attacked, and I’ve collected up information throughout the separate times that it was under attack. You have to understand that LJ is like the biggest social media/blogging site for Russia. I have heard it likened to facebook, and they don’t really have anything else there that’s popular to communicate. We have countless areas where we can, and we have freedom of speech.
So there are some popular political bloggers over there who use LJ as their platform. I don’t know if they’re in the campaign or support a certain party or are anti-a-certain-party. I don’t know who is attacking who, but I know someone is doing these attacks in an attempt to shut down the LJ bloggers’ ability to freely speak on one of the few platforms that they have available to them.
I find that amazing, and it makes me support LJ through this even if the customer service on the English side is terrible for not telling us sooner and not explaining the nature of why these attacks are happening. I think a lot of people would be more understanding if they knew the details.
There are so many people who I tell this to and who remain completely ignorant and hateful. I’ve heard people say, Just shut the Russian political blogs down. No, that’s what these stupid hackers want. They want to put pressure on LJ to delete those bloggers and that shouldn’t happen. They shouldn’t win. I don’t care who is saying what, freedom of speech is a right everyone should have.
Edited: This is an old article discussing one of the previous attacks and how the government is trying to control this last avenue of freedom of speech for Russians.
Edit2: Thank you for the reblogs everyone. I think it’s important the information get out there since we’re not being informed about it. I don’t know why the English side of LJ’s customer service isn’t mentioning all the details, but it’s not doing them any favors.
Food for thought.
I don’t use LJ anymore, but I think its important people are aware of this..
From Steve Rosenbaum:
Google’s terms and conditions, buried in tiny print that most users will miss, gives them the right to take control of your content.
“By submitting, posting or displaying the content you give Google a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services. You agree that this license includes a right for Google to make such Content available to other companies, organizations or individuals with whom Google has relationships for the provision of syndicated services, and to use such Content in connection with the provision of those services.”
The key terms here are Perpetual, Royalty-Free - and most disturbingly - Adapt and Modify.
This means that if you’ve taken pictures of a sunset, or fireworks, or your children playing with a toy - or anything - Google has the right to grab those images, edit them, publishing them, and re-sell them.
If you think the answer is simply that you won’t put any pictures on your G+ page, think again. Google REQUIRES you to link your Picasa account to your G+ account, and therefore requires you to license your Picasa to them under their Royalty-Free contract.
SCARY STUFF.
Important info
ALWAYS read the terms of service especially with all of this new social networking nonsense.
Interesting.
Not that I’m remotely interested in joining Google+, but this is good to know.
